Meeting State Requirements for New York City Teachers

What’s Your Goal?

Renew My New York Teaching Certificate

Although we no longer offer NYC ASPDP courses, we have worked with hundreds of New York City teachers and thousands of teachers from the state of New York. New York educators often consider our Flex Credit courses that are offered at a lower price point and provide the hours required for certificate renewal. Upon successful compltion of a Flex Credit course, a letter of completion is available from Teaching Channel. The beauty of Flex Credit is if you decide to “upgrade” to a graduate-credit course, you can do so within six months of Flex Credit completion.

For teachers seeking both salary advancement and certificate renewal, graduate-level continuing education courses are a great choice. When earning these credits, they remain on an official university transcript and can often be used toward salary schedule advancement in future districts you teach in throughout your career. These courses help teachers grow professionally and secure the credits needed to apply toward advanced degrees or career growth.

Teaching Channel with Learners Edge is an approved sponsor for the New York State Education Department Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE).

Renew Your Certificate

Credit Conversion

Select from our credit-bearing or professional development courses to meet your needs.

1 Teaching Channel with Learners Edge graduate level, continuing education credit = 15 clock hours of CTLE credit

Each Teaching Channel with Learners Edge 1-credit course requires approximately 15 hours for course completion.

1 professional development hour = 1 clock hour of CTLE credit

Teaching Channel with Learner Edge Professional Development varies from 2.5 to 37.5 hours per course.

Educators who are subject to CTLE and practice in an applicable school throughout their five-year registration period must complete 100 clock hours of acceptable CTLE. There is one CTLE requirement per educator (e.g., 100 clock hours), regardless of the number of certificates held.

Educators who hold one or more of the following certificates are subject to the continuing teacher and leader education (CTLE) requirement:

  • Professional certificate in the classroom teaching service
  • Professional certificate in the educational leadership service (i.e., School Building Leader, School District Leader, and School District Business Leader)
  • Teaching Assistant Level III certificate

There are multiple ways to earn 100 clock hours with Teaching Channel with Learners Edge. See examples below.

The continuing teacher and leader education (CTLE) language acquisition requirement varies by certificate holder. Course 5025: Making Content Accessible For Your English Language Learners includes information on language acquisition as well as other key concepts for increasing accessibility and achievement for English learners.

Select from our credit-bearing or professional development courses to meet your needs.

If you have any questions as to whether you are required to meet CTLE requirements, please reference Registration & Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) Requirements.

Why You Should Enroll in Courses as a Long-Term Investment

In many districts, teachers gain a salary increase when they accrue graduate-level credits. But have you considered the money you leave on the table when you delay accruing those credits?

Teachers who gain an extra $8K in salary 20 years before retirement bring home an extra $160K in earnings. And those teachers may also receive a higher pension by finishing their careers at an advance salary level. Compare that to the educator who achieves that goal 10 years later: $80K less income. See what credit accrual could mean for you by using our salary calculator. Be sure to check our course bundles that let you accrue credits at less cost and on a pay-as-you-learn plan.

University Partners for Missouri Educators

Bundle Your Savings

Pay a lot less with our course bundles, plus go even easier on your budget with a monthly payment plan.
